The Importance Of A Good Putter

The importance of a good putter cannot be overstated. While every club in a golfer’s bag plays a crucial role, the putter holds a special significance. It is the club that is used most frequently on the greens, where precision and finesse are paramount.

A good putter can make the difference between sinking putts and struggling on the greens. It provides the golfer with confidence, control, and consistency, which are essential for successful putting. The design and construction of a high-quality putter allow for proper alignment, balance, and feel, enabling the golfer to execute a smooth and accurate stroke.

The importance of a good putter lies not only in its technical aspects but also in its psychological impact. Putting requires a delicate touch and a calm mindset. A well-crafted putter will instill trust in your next shot, helping you to stay focused and relaxed while facing challenging putts. It becomes an extension of the golfer’s skill and enhances their ability to read greens and judge distances.

Furthermore, a good putter can save you valuable strokes during a round of golf. Even a slight improvement in putting can lead to significant score reductions. Professional golfers often emphasize the significance of a solid putting game in their overall success.

In conclusion, a good putter is an indispensable tool for any golfer aiming to improve their game. It empowers the golfer with the necessary tools and confidence to excel on the greens, translating into lower scores and a more enjoyable golfing experience.

1. Ray Cook Putter SR200

Best For Mid-Handicappers
8.5Our Score

The SR200 is a clean, simple, more modest putter. The looks of this club are more suited to a player with a classical taste. The black finish is excellent quality and almost matte. This means you won’t get any glare on bright summer days as you do with some steel putters.
But don’t let the simple looks fool you, this is a modern club. The head is expertly cast and weighted for an extremely smooth, pendulum style swing. This gives you a nice solid contact and prevents you from jabbing at the ball, skewing it off line from the get go.
The sweet spot was actually larger than we expected too. This has to do with the weight distribution of the clubhead. With the weight concentrated on the extremities, the gives you a larger surface of the face to aim for.
Standing over this club you notice the alignment markers are nice and clear. This makes lining up your shot that much easier.
Overall, a good, solid putter and great value for money.

2. Ray Cook Putter SR500

Best For High-Handicappers
8.5Our Score

The SR500 has an extravagant, almost futuristic look, a great modern day putter. The looks of this club are more suited to a player with a flamboyant taste. Available in a variety of colors that look simply stunning. You can strut around the green like a peacock!
However, this is far from being a mere gimmick; instead, it represents a contemporary club equipped with all the advanced features and impressive functionalities that one would anticipate from Ray Cook. The intricate clubhead is expertly cast and counter-weighted for a very smooth swing. This club just glides across the surface and gives you a nice sturdy contact.
Once again, the sweet spot was quite large. So, you will have no problem with poor contacts dragging your shots off line. Especially with the alignment markers so clearly visible as you look down at address.
The putter itself is well balanced, albeit slightly back heavy. But this is a good thing! The weight carries through the ball with ease. The club generates all the power for you, no more forcing the shot, even for 20+ yard putts.
Overall, a solid, modern putter and again, great value for money.

3. Ray Cook Putter SR900

Best For Low-Handicappers
8.5Our Score

The SR900 brings you the best of both worlds. Less simple than the SR200, but less complicated than the SR500.  This club is very aesthetically pleasing. With its smooth curves and clean lines, it looks great both in the bag and in your hands.
Once again, the clubhead has been expertly cast and has an amazing feel. A slightly softer feel than the other two but you still get a nice, firm contact. This gives you more fingertip feedback which can be useful for improving the finer points of your putting technique.
This Ray Cook putter is perfectly balanced. And we do mean perfectly! The club swings like the pendulum on an old grandfather clock. It has a good weight in the hand, not too little, not too much. This gives you the most control possible. You can impart the perfect speed to arc the ball beautifully around curves and contours on the green.
The sweet spot was not quite as large as the others but was by no means small. But this is a compromise worth making for the increased dexterity and versatility. It is almost a catch 22. You need to be more accurate on your swing, but your shots will be more accurate too. In our opinion, this is best suited for low-handicappers.
Overall, this was our favorite Ray Cook putter.  Offering great control and exceptional value for money.
